Mike Kaupa (2009/Fleur De Son FDSJ 57994) $15.00 A 76-minute work commissioned by New
York State Council on the Arts, Cycles Suite is intended as a meditation
on one’s own life cycle and the important connections with the
cycles of others. Jentsch’s complete liner notes.
"The interesting thing is that he's using avant-garde techniques,
but in a traditional framework…”
– Will
Friedwald (New York Sun)
“In its scope and detail and eternally recurring inner logic,
Cycles Suite may be the Finnegans Wake of big-band jazz. …a moving
and elegiac journey through complex emotional terrain.”
– Richard Gehr (from the liner
notes)

(2007/Fleur
De Son FDS 57987) $15.00 Includes the 45-minute suite for a sixteen-piece
jazz ensemble commissioned by American Composers Forum, and two other
original tunes. One of the ideas for this project was to take advantage
of the opportunity to combine various electric guitar sounds and textures
with the large ensemble.
"Brooklyn Suite (is) Chris Jentsch's sublime set of interwoven themes
and expansive movements for guitar and orchestra…
In the course of its myriad twists and transformations, Brooklyn
Suite breathes with so much more spirit than what we typically
designate 'concert music'; without being determinedly programmatic,
it evokes the lush and gritty varieties of the borough’s
landscape... The seven parts of Jentsch's suite...
flow organically one to the next, generating new motifs,
casting back to earlier motifs, just as Brooklyn itself seems
to...
Jentsch's compositions inspire cinematic reverie while confounding
the construction of any single literal plot. His achievement
is really too big to accommodate a simple story."

notes)

"On MEDIA EVENT Jentsch combines graceful dexterity
with introspective intensity, an exceptional new talent on the instrumental
guitar front."
- 20th Century Guitar Magazine
"Jentsch displays contemporary guitar mastery
throughout
(his CD). When you think of the traditions of the guitar in the late 20th century,
emotion is the word that is often conjured.
For Jentsch, add intellect, substance,
and style to that
guitar-emotion definition."
